To introduce you to your Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Level 2 (SOVA) course, this section contains a brief course overview followed by exactly what SOVA is and the importance of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Care Inspectorate Scotland. You will learn about Adult Safeguarding and how, why, and where vulnerable adults are at risk of harm.
In this section, you will learn all about SOVA, who might abuse or neglect a person, and who would be classed as vulnerable. The different kinds of abuse, whether it be physical, emotional, or financial, and the indicators that will help you recognise each. Once you understand the forms of abuse you will learn about consent and disclosure, the duty of care, and the importance of individualised person centred care. We will look at serious case reviews and sources of advice when dealing with abuse before moving on to Domestic Abuse and Modern Slavery.
In this section, you will learn about how to respond if somebody tells you abuse is taking place or you suspect it may be happening. How to report a case, or suspected case and the barriers you may face doing this. Finally, we look at Whistleblowing, what it is and the procedure to follow if you need to whistleblow.
